With a vision to be a one-stop Chinese information portal, Mediacorp partnered with Aleph to re-think and revamp the Channel 8 News online portal and their mobile apps. Part of the revamp included integrating the entertainment portal iWeekly into the 8World Platform to ensure that the experience flowed seamlessly across hard news, lifestyle, and entertainment content types.
Another big revamp was the upgrade of the Content Management System in which news portal editors interact with daily. Through the revamp, the new CMS would make it easier for editors to work in, with dynamic and efficient workflows.
We wanted to create a lasting product that would cater to the browsing needs of users of all generations. We chose to run the project in a cycle of research, design, development, and user testing (UT) phases. Insights and data generated from UTs and research were translated into designs and development to improve app efficiency.
The process included the visions of stakeholders and various teams from the media network including editors, reporters, ad sales team, infra and operations. The endeavour, touted as the biggest digital transformation journey for Mediacorp, resulted in 8 World, a modern take on a media platform for all Chinese news and entertainment readers.
We redefined Mediacorp’s CMS process to make it easier and simpler for editors, revamped the website to increase engagement social sharing, and created a bespoke experience for all types of users.
